ABOUT AREND & ELIAS
Background
Arend & Elias is named after Arend Japin and Piet Elias, two Dutch police men and close friends, who used their position as police officers, to save the lives of many, during the German occupation during the Second World War in Amsterdam. Elias paid the highest price for his righteousness while Arend Japin escaped the raid on his home narrowly, but saw his wife suffering long-lasting consequences from severe abuse.
Their courage and commitment to acting selflessly and righteously to protect human life, constitutes the ethical foundation of the Work of Arend & Elias Institute of Global Health, Innovation and Research.
